Fine, Yvonne won’t tell the world about what you did.
She’ll just tell Anne.
No, seriously, I think it would create some interesting conversations if she knew the depths to which her mentor is willing to stoop “for the greater good”.
Oooo, I like the way you think. Unfortunately for Bezdomny, he’s a little too emotional to come up with that, even if he didn’t have reason to believe Anne would be in agreement on this.
I definitely want this to be revisited, and sooner than later (and I think it’ll involve him telling Anne as well, though we’ll see.)
I think there are some reasonable stumbling blocks for Ivan to the approach of telling Anne, though. He’s always been well-intentioned, but I think there might be an unconscious lumping of Anne into Miranda’s “camp” instead of the other way around. What’s to stop Anne from going to tell Miranda that he’s trying to go around Miranda’s back? Like, it’s obvious to us as the readers that Anne would be able to save the day here, but I think there’s a lot of unanswered questions for him with a lot of potential risk in his mind.
Also, I think he’s going to need a bit of character growth. I think he’s still sort of in the “All secrets should be known, and all attempts at covering up are evil!” mindset, even if he’s taken a few steps away from that. His thirst for widespread truth will need some tempering, and probably the realization that personal secrecy has some merit. (He might have character growth in a different direction, of course, but I see that as a probable one right now.)
Whatever happens next with this plotline, though, I’m eager. 🙂
Good points! I just hope that we get back to how everyone is doing in general. If anything, it would be interesting for Anne to notice that something is off about Scott and find out from there.
Keep in mind these are “depths” that Anne routinely “stoops to” with her friends all the time, and has done by accident other times. I wouldn’t expect a horrified reaction there.
Keep also in mind that Ivan’s intentions are self-serving and irresponsible, disrespectful of anyone’s right to privacy, and unconcerned with the negative consequences (such as harm to others) of his exposing secrets that aren’t his to expose. He’s proven willing to stoop to criminal acts like breaking and entering in pursuit of his other crimes. He is not, and at no point has been, in the right here.
In point of fact, Ivan is being taught a key life lesson in how his careless (and criminal) actions can have consequences he can’t foresee, and hurt more people than just himself, in a way that’s not resulting in any real harm. It’s a lesson he was sorely missing. We’ll see if it sticks or if he continues to tell himself he’s the victim of this story.

I don’t like her anymore.
Not that I ever really did, though
