I wouldn’t suggest assuming Ivan’s clean. I mean, there’s no specific reason to suppose he isn’t, but that would actually be a pretty effective way to have a guard/lookout without arousing suspicion. If people are expecting him to be here anyway, they won’t be alarmed at finding him.
It also always struck me as weird that a school lets ANY students remain after dark. American schools especially. Half of them make the students walk through metal detectors to get inside. They put trust in students to about the same degree a prison puts trust in prisoners.
