not JUST A BIT… it’s the fairly common superhero thing. If she weren’t there, the problems would follow her elsewhere. Nearly all of the danger to her town is because she’s there and Xaos is messing with her. He’s perfectly correct.
Of course hes also a hypocrite. Loki is her mirror image. HE causes the problems, and then cleans them up. SHE cleans up the problems, but is the reason they appear. Male female. Chaos generator, Chaos Magnet.
While Anne is clearly on the side of the people of Tandy Garden, since Loki is USING THEM to become reincarnations of the gods… Loki is also cleaning up his own mess one Ragnarok later. And maybe being the reincarnation of a god is fun.
Loki’s not accusing her of being the Big Bad’s target, though. He’s telling them that she’s the Big Bad. There’s some truth to the accusation that she’s abused her powers, but he’s still lying.
I mean oblivious to himself. I don’t think Loki is being a hypocrite, I think he’s seeing an angle of attack an exploiting it for all its worth. I wonder if he’s buying time.
“How do you stop avatar of chaos from derailing your perfectly laid out plan?” – you won’t. You lost the moment you made the plan. You should’ve improvised.
I think this is my favorite page of the current arc. I like the body language, the self-awareness about the TG fantasy, the fact that there’s both a trans man and a trans woman, the way these people have understandable motives, not falling back on mind control to make them turn on their friend.
I do like the mixed reactions–some people hate the chaos that Anne has wrought, while others view it as an opportunity, and one person seems simply curious.
If the fireball kind of magic would turn to be real, there will be lot of dead people next day. However, crazily safe transformations which never hurt anyone despite moving around their internal organs? That would be fun.
Loki wouldn’t be Loki if he couldn’t spin it like a pro. And yeah, this is what happens when writers get too hung up on the idea of always tying the heroes’ and villains’ origins together, rather than the heroes coming into being as a RESPONSE to the villains. And I know the law of narrative commands that Anne has to win (if for no other reason that it would be an anti-climatic waste of the Xaos myth arc), but I still like to imagine the alternate universe were Loki and Hermes actually manage to pull this off.
Yeah I get what you mean. Think of it like his though: if Loki wins chaos reigns and he has nothing left to disrupt. He wins by losing too and will come back when all is just peachy and wonderful. Chaos is at its best when it doesn’t stick around forever… but happening when least expected.
It’s my headcanon that the girl in the third panel is the one on the bottom-left in the first. After all, the comic doesn’t point out every breath Anne takes, and this seems to come just as naturally.
Very interesting request from the one on top, though. First, she doesn’t want to be transformed, just left that way if transformed? And second, I have to think whatever’s happening to her most likely isn’t Anne’s fault…
Well, she ain’t a genie, she can’t mint millions of dollars with her magic because that would tank the economy (actually canon, after Evan complained about having to work :p ), she can’t revive the dead, can’t cure cancer (maybe), and I doubt anyone here wants to rule the world…
…I suppose furries or those seeking a mythological transformation might seek her out, but that’s far less common and I think most of those would hesitate before asking for such things. But gender…gender dysphoria is a very painful thing. And those with more fluid gender identities (especially those who don’t know they’re fluid) might want to “have fun” being the opposite gender. They might have no idea why they want it, but it’s a thing, an actual thing people are born with and they probably don’t even know they have it. So, that lady might want to be a boy sometimes, but not all the time. Same with that dude.
I am curious though, other than the examples mentioned above, what did you think they’d want? Because other than becoming a magic user themselves, I can’t think of anything.
For some reason Loki here is reminding me of that ‘yet you participate in society!’ guy from the meme about what happens when someone proposes improving society somewhat. Just that combination of how he’s lying there, his face, and how condescending he’s being.
Okay, it’s there’s no way in hell that Loki is projecting or that obvious to himself. He’s clearly just playing the crowd for all it’s worth.
It’s like the title says. But there’s a bit of truth to it.

I can understand cleaning up your messes. The problem is that he’s using PEOPLE as materials to do it.

Since Anne is the “Avatar of Chaos”, then she would probably be the best person to stop the chaos storm.
So, how do you stop the avatar of chaos from derailing your plans? You tell everyone half-truths that turn them against your only major opponent.
Thank you for writing and drawing. Take care!

Murphey’s law of combat: battle plans never survive first contact with the enemy.
I say punch him right in his stupid, hypocritical smile. (Righteous fury)

Loki’s not trans as such. He puts the fluid into gender fluid, given that he’s Sleipnir’s mother.
Loki never lies. He merely tells inconvenient truths.
indeed. That is his schtic.
True. He was probably the one being that wouldn’t weep at Baldr’s death.
I wonder if Anne’s power is link to Loki’s due to their very similar nature.
I like how half of the comments are people asking her to do magic for them, and only half are complaints.
Two people are requesting to be genderbent…
…but what do you expect from a town with the initials “T.G.”?
All I know is, there’d be a lot of happy people worldwide if magic turned out to be real tomorrow. Especially magic of the gender bending kind.
If the fireball kind of magic would turn to be real, there will be lot of dead people next day. However, crazily safe transformations which never hurt anyone despite moving around their internal organs? That would be fun.
I would gladly take both kinds of magic.
I don’t want everyone in the world to have magical powers. People still haven’t learned to use this opposable thumb thing responsibly.
Magic for everybody could be fun, but very dangerous. You’d be safer giving everyone a pistol.
That’s the sort of thing that the current arc of El Goonish Shivae is going over.
You lost your job? I’m sorry, what was your job?
I was female pole dancer.
… …?
I’m beginning to think this Loki guy’s style is from another comic.
Loki’s not entirely wrong.
Plus he’s right that Anne abuses her magic.
Thank you Loki! Now show milo crying in a corner somewhere as she can’t even -say- what’s wrong with her.
Technically even Loki wouldn’t be there if not for Anne. So yeah the god has a point even if he has been messing with people too.

I’m just hoping some of the Incarnations get to stick around.
Good point–for Loki it is not victory that he seeks, but rather the battle itself.
Thus the cycle continues 🙂

i like how he turning her word against her. loki has been portrayed as the lord of lies and is very good at word play.
So, why doesn’t she just flat out point out that he’s literally “Loki – the god of lies”?
I thought it was god of mischief.
It’s like the tale of the boy who cried wolf. Even a liar tells the truth.
Loki Lie-Smith is one of his kennings, though he rarely lies in the lore.
Why is the only request people are making is to have their gender changed? There are so many other things people could be wanting.

A shapeshifter. A superhero. Smarter. Stronger, faster, tougher…
Anybody know what’s going on with Accidental Centaurs? I just got a “Do you want to buy this page” page.
How long ago was it updated? If a long time ago, then it’s another case of a dead webcomic going offline.
Definitely a long time ago. 🙁
For some reason Loki here is reminding me of that ‘yet you participate in society!’ guy from the meme about what happens when someone proposes improving society somewhat. Just that combination of how he’s lying there, his face, and how condescending he’s being.
Any word on why we missed another update?
